Mere Cricket Club Mere CC 1st XI v Motcombe on Sun 01 Jun 2014 at 2.00
Mere Cricket Club Won by 184 runs

Match report Skipper Weir won the toss and chose to bat first.

Motcombe failed to contain the flow of runs and Mere ended on a very healthy 249-5 with a captain's knock from Weir of 143 not out which included an excellent 100 partnership with Mark Williams. It was a good example for any budding young cricketers of how to run between the wickets with boundaries scarce in the long outfield. Perhaps their strike bowler Mere U11 Charlie Cassidy was taking it all in from cover point.

Motcombe also had love sick Mike '5 bellies' Ryan and Dave 'wide ball' Rutherford in their ranks but unfortunately they were ring rusty and not at their devastating best.

Karen Harkin had put on the spread of the season so far. Hand crafted sandwiches with a good mix of fillings, more cakes than a Yaya Toure birthday party and a good selection of optional extras, and plenty of everything. Definitely an early season front runner for tea of the year. Some big hitters still out there to show what they can do; 2013 Tea of the Year winner Sophie Weir has booked a slot in July, Jason's mum is hovering by the baking tray waiting for the call up and Emily Pitts, devastated not to have won in 2013 (blaming it on the poor quality tesco's sausage rolls) is armed and dangerous with the rolling pin in hand.

A brace of wickets from Rebecca Yeo and Steve Parton and one a piece for Sean Harkin and Will Thorpe ensured Motcombe were not going to get near the target required.

Senior Pro Bryan must stand up and take a bow. His second wicket of the day caught by Archie Young was his 100th for the club. A great milestone and one everyone had been waiting for ever since Bryan announced he was on 95 wickets early in the season. Not that he's counting or anything...

Mark Williams continued his good day with the bat with 4 catches including one stunning right handed effort complete with mid air dive to snare 5 bellies at cover. Bryan's 99th wicket for the record.

Motcombe all out for 55 leaving plenty of celebration time in the Nut.
